About the Artist
“Promise me you’ll start painting again.”
Hi. I’m Sandy Donner. I’m a wheat farmer’s daughter, a true midwest girl from Nebraska (Go Huskers!), a real ‘Daddy’s girl’, and that quote above is from my father.
I started painting in my senior year of high school, and not surprisingly, Art was my favorite subject! I painted a few canvases which my dad proudly hung, and a lot of the decorations for senior prom. I also painted a full wall mural in the children’s shoe section at our local JC Penney store. (My first commission! )
After high school, I took a 35 yr. hiatus from painting and focused on working, then later on being a wife to my husband John, and mother to 2 wonderful children, Michael and Meghan. But I always found ways to create, and I tried my hand at many crafts, including sculpting, sewing and also jewelry making.
I worked at a local elementary school for 13 yrs, working with 2nd graders and also being in charge of our building’s lunch program for 7 yrs. During this time, my dad would gently nudge me to start painting again (he was my biggest fan). Towards the end of his life he would repeat the request and finally made me promise that I would start painting.
So after retiring, painting made a comeback into my life, and I discovered the palette knife!! Something about using a palette knife with all that creamy paint and texture just calls to me! Layers and layers of paint come together and make something so unique that it truly “stands out”!
I’m thrilled be painting again, and to fulfill my promise to my dad.
I hope you enjoy my work. I enjoy sharing it with you!
